Curl Curl Youth Club was formed in 1958 and 2018 was the clubs 60th anniversary. It fields teams in the Manly Warringah Soccer
competition and we have members from Under 6 to Over 45 in the mixed, men’s and
ladies competitions.
We are now the 5th largest club in
the Manly Warringah competition.
Our Club continues to expand and we had 1326 playing members for the 2019 season in 97 teams. In
addition we had over 200 registered coaches, managers and volunteers. Over the last 7 years our player numbers have increased by over 40%.
Our home fields are at Abbott Road in North Curl Curl where we have 2 full size
pitches and various pitches for the younger age groups. We also have the use of
another full-size pitch on the south side of the lagoon at Adams St.
We had fantastic floodlighting installed in 2010 covering the entire Abbott Rd
area. Our next project is a new
clubhouse which is at the DA stage.
Player Development
The focus at Curl Curl is on developing our young players and so in 2013 we commenced Junior Development Training for U6-U10 on a Monday night at the futsal courts in
Harbord. This program was extremely well received and has been continued and
expanded ever since. In 2019 it included U6 - U14 age groups as well as a 2 dedicated girls sessions for W8-11 and W12- W14 and was run at Abbott Rd.
The program is supported by Diamond Blue Financial Services and Mike Pawley Sports and this allows us to minimise the cost to players for the program. It will return for its 8th season in 2020 and will include an extension program for our stronger players.
Coach Education and Mentoring
At Curl Curl we are also committed to increasing the level of coach education
at our club. Curl Curl presents its own grassroots and skill training courses and we strongly encourage our coaches to attend the course relevant to
the age group with which they are involved. Our coaches can also access, free of charge, the courses conducted by the MWFA.
Curl Curl was a founding member of the MWFA Club Coach Coordinator program which provides mentoring, education and support particularly for our newer coaches, including evening workshops targeting the different age group stages.
In our younger age groups (U6 - U11) more than 70% of our coaches
are correctly qualified for the age group they are coaching. This is
a fantastic achievement given that all our coaches are
volunteers. We plan to improve on that percentage in coming years.
Canteen
As for many seasons, the dedication of a few individuals has provided a great
service and raised valuable funds for the club. We are grateful to them and to
all those teams who provide workers to assist in the canteen.
Committee
We have a strong committee, many of whom have been on the committee some years, however, we are always keen for new committee members. There are lots of roles both big and small so please give a thought to helping out.
